-
- BATTLE CHARGE is a DOS based two-player strategy game requiring an
- 80286 or later series CPU, 300K of free RAM, VGA color graphics,
- and a Microsoft compatible mouse and DOS resident mouse driver.
-
- BTC.EXE and BTCPCS.DAT are the only essential files. The execut-
- able will run from either a floppy disk or hard drive. BTCPCS.DAT,
- which contains graphic image data, must accompany BTC.EXE in the
- same directory. A variety of sample board files with the extension
- .BTC are also included; these can be opened from within the game.
- REGISTER.DOC is the program registration form. It may be opened and
- printed using any DOS-based text editor.
-
- When BTC.EXE is started, the user enters a character based shell
- with two menus: »File« and »Game«. The menu items under »File« en-
- able you to open a board file, save a game in progress, or exit the
- program. Under the »Game« menu, selecting the item »Play« begins a
- new game or returns to the one in progress, and selecting the item
- »Help« provides a detailed set of directions and registration/copy-
- right in formation.
-
- Note: If you run BATTLE CHARGE from MS Windows 3.x and find that you
- lose your mouse cursor, you must add a statement to your AUTOEXEC.BAT
- file to load the MOUSE.COM driver from your Windows directory. For a
- directory named WINDOWS on drive C, the statement would be:
-
- c:\windows\mouse.com
-
- Comment out any other mouse drivers in AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS
- and reboot your computer. For more details, see your Windows
- manual.
-
- BATTLE CHARGE is an abstract board game whose basic properties
- (piece selection, motion, etc.) are physically intuitive. However,
- due to the variety of interactions between pieces and some other
- essential details, it is important to read the directions carefully
- and demonstrate the range of possibilities for yourself by running
- through situations on the fully editable game board.
-
- A few of the game properties such as the number of pieces on the
- board, the initial board configuration, and the number of pieces
- moved during a turn have been left open. See the section RECOM-
- MENDED PLAY in the »Help« window, which outlines a recommended play
- scheme.
-
- BATTLE CHARGE is the second in a trilogy of two-player strategy
- games together with COLOR CROSS and TUNNEL WAR (in progress). If
- you enjoy BATTLE CHARGE, you can not lose trying the others. Write
- with any questions, observations, or suggestions to:
